Bombardment at Fort Sumter
1865 Steel Engraving

This print depicts the first clash (April 12, 1861) of the Civil War, at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. The Confederates were victorious, but the fort was retaken by Union Forces about the time this print was published in 1865 as part of Civil War in America by John S. C. Abbott. It is in excellent condition with no discoloration except some faint, small gray marks in a couple of spots at the edges, outside of the image area. This steel engraving was printed on heavy paper, which is blank on the reverse. The margins are bigger than shown here, the print being 9-1/4 inches by 6-1/4 inches; the image area is 7-1/2 inches by 4-1/2 inches. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
